SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES 
2 c. flour
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking soda
1 to 2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. dairy sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. finely chopped peeled apples

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, butter at low speed until crumbly; stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of mixture into ungreased 13 x 9 inch pan. To remaining crumb mixture, add baking soda, cinnamon, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg. Blend well. Stir in apples. Spoon mixture evenly over crumb mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut in squares. If desired serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
