MOM'S JIM DANDIES 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
2 tbsp. milk
2 sqs. unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 c. walnuts
1/4 c. chopped maraschino cherries
18 lg. marshmallows, cut in half

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together flour, soda, and salt; set aside. Add brown sugar to shortening; cream. Blend in egg. Stir in 1/2 dry ingredients and add cherry juice and milk. Stir in remaining dry ingredients. Blend in chocolate, walnuts, and cherries.

Drop by teaspoon on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes. While still hot, place 1/2 marshmallow, cut side down, on each cookie. Cool and ice.

ICING:

In double boiler cook milk, butter, chocolate, and salt until thick. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and powdered sugar until spreading consistency. Ice cookies. May place walnut or cherry on top if desired.
