CHOCOLATE CHIP DATE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. dates, chopped
2 1/4 c. boiling water
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
3/4 c. butter, softened
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts

Combine dates, boiling water and 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda. Let stand while mixing rest of cake.

In bowl cream sugar and butter. Add eggs. Blend in flour and baking soda. Add date mixture.

Pour into 13 x 9 inch greased and floured baking dish (mixture will look runny). Sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar, 6 ounce package chocolate chips and chopped nuts over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes or tests done.
