SLIVERED ALMOND COOKIES 
1 c. shortening (half butter for flavor)
1 c. sugar
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. moist shredded coconut
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. almonds, slivered

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly. Blend in the eggs. Sift flour, salt and soda together and blend into the creamed mixture. Blend in the nuts, coconut and vanilla. Drop by teaspoon onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 15 minutes in 350 degree oven. Makes about 5 dozen.
