APPLE DUMPLING' ROLLS
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 tsp. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tsp. shortening
4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. milk
6 apples, sliced
1 tsp. cinnamon

Bring to boil 1 1/2 cups sugar and all the water to form a syrup. Add butter and pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan.

Mix together flour, salt, shortening, baking powder and milk. Roll out dough and cover with apples, 1/2 cup sugar and the cinnamon you have mixed together. Roll like a jelly roll and cut into 1 inch slices. Place in syrup. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Makes 8-10 rolls.

After my dad and brothers had worked in the fields until lunch, they loved to come home to hot apple dumplings or hot apple sauce and biscuits. It was a joy to Momma to serve them the riches from our own orchard.
