CARAMEL OATMEAL BARS 
32 caramels
5 fl. oz. evaporated milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. quick oatmeal
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. soft butter
2 c. chocolate chips
1 c. chopped nuts

Melt 32 caramels with 5 ounces evaporated milk in double boiler. Cool slightly. Mix 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 cups quick oatmeal, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1 cup soft butter together. Press 1/2 of this mixture into 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.

Remove from oven and sprinkle immediately with 2 cups chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped nuts. Pour the melted caramels over the nuts, then add the rest of the crumbs over caramels. Return to oven and bake 15 to 20 minutes longer at 350 degrees or until brown. Chill for 2 hours. Cut into squares.
