SCOTCH BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg yolk
1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. rolled oats
1 pkg. semi sweet chocolate bits
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream shortening and sugars, add vanilla and egg yolk. Beat until fluffy. Stir in flour and rolled oats and blend well. Spread in greased pan and bake 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes or so. Melt chocolate over hot water; stir until smooth. Spread chocolate over cookie surface and sprinkle with nuts. Cut when cool.
