SAVORY SOUTHERN STEW 
2 lbs. beef chuck (cubed)
2 tbsp. oil (Crisco, corn oil)
4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic (optional)
2 bay leaves
1 tbsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
Dash of allspice
1 tsp. sugar
6 carrots, diced
2 onions, diced
4 potatoes, diced

Cut beef chuck into cubes and brown in oil in large saucepan. Add boiling water, lemon juice, Worcestershire, garlic, bay leaves, salt, pepper, paprika, allspice and sugar to beef cubes. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Add carrots, onions and potatoes and cook additional 20 minutes or until vegetables are done.
