1/2 c. shortening 2 c. sugar 2 eggs 1 c. buttermilk 2 tsp. baking soda 4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. boiling water 1/2 c. cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk and baking soda. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and add to above. Mix and add water, cocoa and vanilla. Drop by tablespoon and flatten slightly onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 6 to 10 minutes at 450 degrees. FILLING: 1 c. milk 5 tbsp. flour 1 c. powdered sugar 1 c. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla Cook milk and flour until thick and set aside to cool. Mix together powdered sugar, shortening and vanilla and add to milk and flour. Beat until light and fluffy and spread between cookies. Sprinkle top with powdered sugar. |
