OLD FASHIONED STACK CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1/2 c. buttermilk
6 c. flour plus 1/2 for rolling dough
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. pumpkin spice
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Beat in egg. Add vanilla; sift flour. Measure and sift all dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk. Roll dough about 1/4 inch thickness. Divide in 6 or 7 parts. Roll each ball of dough over bottom of 9 inch round cake pan. Bake in 450 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. When layers are done, put together with apples.
