MASSIE STACK CAKE | |
3/4 c. shortening 1 c. molasses 3 eggs 1 c. sugar 1 c. milk 4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 tsp. baking soda 3 c. applesauce Or old fashioned dried apples Cooked to make a thick filling season apples with spices to taste. Mix thoroughly flour, salt, soda and baking powder by sifting 3 times. Cream shortening, then add sugar a little at a time, blending well. Add molasses; mix well. Add eggs one at a time, beat after each egg. Add flour and milk alternately, beat until smooth. Place mixture 3/8 inch thick in floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 375 degree oven for 18 minutes. This should make 6 layers. When cool stack up layers using applesauce between each layer applesauce seasoned with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Cooked down thick goes through layers. Is delicious, it should stand to cure before cutting. |
