TAMALE PIE 
1 lb. ground beef
1 c. chopped onions
1 c. chopped green pepper
2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 (12 oz.) can whole corn
1/2 c. olives, chopped
1 clove garlic
2 tbsp. sugar
Dash pepper
1 sm. can mushrooms
2-3 tsp. chili powder

Cook meat, onions, and green pepper in a large skillet until meat is browned and vegetables are tender. Stir in tomatoes, sauce, corn, olives, mushrooms, garlic, sugar, then 1 teaspoon salt, chili powder, and pepper. Simmer 20 minutes or until thick.

Add 6 ounces sharp cheese (1 1/2 cups) American; stir until melted. Turn into greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish.

CORNMEAL TOPPING:

3/4 c. cornmeal
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. cold water
1 tsp. butter

Make cornmeal topper. Stir cornmeal and salt into cold water; cook and stir until thick. Add butter; spoon over meat mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.
