GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. Crisco
4 egg yolks
2 1/2 c. flour
4 egg whites
Pinch of salt

Dissolve 1 cake German chocolate in 1/2 cup hot water. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Beat sugar, Crisco and egg yolks until creamy. Add flour alternately with 1 cup buttermilk; add chocolate. Beat until smooth. Fold in egg whites. Bake in 3 (9 inch) layers at 350 degrees.

FILLING:

3 egg yolks
1 c. sugar
1/2 pt. whipping cream
1 c. coconut
1/2 c. nuts
Lump butter
