GOULASH 
1-2 lbs. beef steak, cut in cubes
Lg. onion, diced
Oil for browning meat
2 c. tomato juice
Boiling water
1 bay leaf
2 cloves
Salt, pepper and dash of allspice
2 c. diced raw potatoes
2 c. diced carrots

Brown steak and onion in oil, stirring constantly. Add the tomato juice and enough boiling water to cover. Add salt and pepper, bay leaf and spices. Cover and cook slowly for about 1/2 hour.

Add the vegetables and simmer until vegetables are done. Add a little water if needed but goulash should be thick. Remove spices before serving.
