HAYNES' OKRA GUMBO 
1 large pkg. frozen or fresh cut okra (supermarket size)
2 large onions, cut into small pieces
4 celery sticks, cut into normal size pieces
1 green pepper, cut into pieces
1/2 box fresh mushrooms
1/2 tsp. powder garlic
1/2 tsp. dill weed
salt to taste
1/2 jar canned tomatoes
1 tsp. sugar

Put first 5 ingredients in large nonstick frying pan and stir frequently so the juice from the okra will dry up, leaving the ingredients non slimy. This takes about 20 minutes, then add powder garlic, dill weed and salt.

Add 1/2 jar of canned tomatoes, cover pan or pot and cook slowly (about 20 minutes). Always taste to see if gumbo is cooked as you wish. Add sugar, stir and cut off heat. Gumbo is ready to serve.

Serves 6.
