SHOO-FLY PIE 
1 egg yolk
1/2 c. molasses
3/4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. shortening
Pastry shell, unbaked

Beat egg yolk in small bowl. Blend in molasses. Add the boiling water with soda dissolved in it. Set aside.

Combine the dry ingredients with shortening and work into crumbs with fingers. Put liquid into pastry shell and top with crumbs. Bake in 400 degree F. oven for 10 minutes, then reduce to 325 degrees and bake for 35 minutes longer.
