SUGAR COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. milk or cream
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift together: 2 tsp. baking powder 1 3/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. flour

Cream butter with sugar, adding sugar gradually. Cream together until light and fluffy. Add the egg. Beat well. Add the milk or cream and vanilla and mix well. Add in 1/4 cup sifted flour mixture to the butter-egg mixture. Mix well. Form into ball. Wrap in wax paper or plastic wrap and chill at least 8 hours.

To bake - remove small amount of dough and roll on lightly floured surface and cut into fancy shapes with cookie cutter. Bake at 375 degrees approximately 8 minutes.

VARIATION: CHOCOLATE SUGAR COOKIES:

To the butter, sugar, egg, milk mixture, add 2 squares of chocolate, melted; or sift 1/3 cup cocoa with flour, baking and salt mixture. Continue as for plain sugar cookies.
