FAMOUS FRENCH TOAST 
1 day old loaf of French bread
3 eggs
1/4 to 1/2 cup half and half or milk
Dash of nutmeg
Dash of salt
Cooking oil
Powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slice bread 1 inch thick and cut into triangles. Beat eggs until frothy, add milk and a dash of nutmeg and salt. Saturate bread in batter, press out batter gently with your hands and re-saturate bread. Gently press out excess batter and fry to absorb grease. Then place on baking sheet and bake 3-4 minutes. Turn and put back in oven for another 3-4 minutes. Let cool slightly, then arrange on plate and sprinkle lightly with powdered sugar. May be served with warm maple syrup or orange marmalade or jelly.
