MACARONI & CHEESE | |
This is always a hit. After you make it once your family will be hooked! My Grandmother learned how to make this in a 1930's high school home economics class. 2 (1 lb. ea.) pkgs. elbow macaroni 3 cups whole milk 1/2 cup (1 stick) real butter salt, to taste large block medium cheddar cheese 1 cup all-purpose flour In heavy saucepan on medium low heat melt butter and then slowly stir in flour until thickened. Similar to making milk gravy. Do not allow to stick or scorch. When thickened, slowly add milk stirring constantly. When combined, add cheese cut up into small chunks. Pour over cooked, drained and salted macaroni and mix well. Bake in 350°F oven until bubbly but not browned, about 15 minutes. Submitted by: LJR |
