AUNT MARY'S SOUP 
1 lb. ground chuck
1 med. onion, chopped
1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
2 c. diced potatoes
1/2 c. diced celery (with leaves)
1 c. slivered cabbage
1/4 c. rice
1 bay leaf
1/2 tsp. leaf thyme
1/2 tsp. basil
4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 1/2 qts. water

Brown beef and onion. Add remaining ingredients and simmer several hours.
