PHILADELPHIA CAKE 
3/8 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. sweet milk
1/2 c. cornstarch
1 c. cake flour
1 1/2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg whites

Cream butter and add sugar gradually. Add half of milk, then the cornstarch, then rest of milk alternately with flour in which salt and baking powder have been sifted. Add vanilla and stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 2 layer pans (8 inch) greased and floured at 375 degrees for 20 minutes.

PART II (Dark Layers) :
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
4 egg yolks
1/6 c. brandy flavoring or orange juice
1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 c. raisins, chopped
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. double-acting baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter, add sugar gradually, then add egg yolks beaten until light. Add flavoring, then milk alternately with dry ingredients sifted together. Add floured raisins last. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
