BUTTERMILK DOUGHNUTS 
2 tbsp. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
3 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs; stir in dry ingredients alternately with liquid. Chill dough 1 hour for easier handling. Roll out 1/3 inch thick. Cut with floured doughnut cutter. Drop from spatula into hot fat and fry golden brown. Roll out remaining dough a little at a time. Makes about 3 dozen.
