3/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 unbeaten eggs
2 1/2 unsweetened chocolate squares, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cream butter, gradually add sugar. Blend in eggs, add melted chocolate and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in dry ingredients gradually (add chopped nuts). Mix thoroughly. Pour into 9x9 inch pan, buttered on the bottom only. Bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees F.) for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool in pan.
