1 1/2 c. flour 1 1/4 sticks unsalted butter 1 egg yolk 1 tbsp. sugar Pinch of salt 1 tbsp. heavy cream Mix together the flour and butter using your hands until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Then add the remaining ingredients and mix together using your hands until all ingredients are well blended and a dough ball is formed. Press dough into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Note that the dough only needs to have sides that are approximately 1 inch high. FILLING: 1 c. sugar 4 egg yolks 5 egg whites 1 c. finely ground walnuts Using an electric mixer, beat together sugar and yolks until pale yellow and slightly thickened. In another bowl, using clean beaters, beat egg whites until stiff. Fold together whites with egg yolk-sugar mixture. Then fold in walnuts. Pour mixture into pan over the dough. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for approximately 1/2 hour. |
