MARBLE CAKE | |
3 c. all-purpose flour, sifted 2 tsp. double acting baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. butter 2 c. sugar 3 eggs 1 c. milk 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. chocolate syrup 1/4 tsp. baking soda Sift together: flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, cream butter and gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Blend in 3 unbeaten eggs, beating well after each. In small bowl, combine milk and vanilla. Add this, and the dry ingredients, in alternate turns, to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Blend thoroughly after each addition (use electric mixer at low speed). Pour 2/3 batter into tube pan greased on bottom (can also grease the "tube"). To remaining batter, add chocolate syrup that has been stirred together with baking soda. Mix. Pour chocolate batter onto white. DO NOT MIX. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 45 minutes. Place aluminum foil tent over top of pan and bake 20 to 25 minutes more. Cool completely before removing. Tastes better when served the day after baking. |
