1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. snipped dates
1 (2 layer) pkg. chocolate cake mix
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Pour the boiling water over the snipped dates and cool. Prepare cake mix according to package directions, substituting date mixture in place of water called for. Pour batter into greased and floured 9x13x2 inch baking pan. Sprinkle chocolate pieces and nuts evenly over top. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees 35 to 45 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
