CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
2/3 soft butter or soft shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. Gold Medal flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
6 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix thoroughly the butter or soft shortening, granulated sugar and brown sugar; add egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Mix thoroughly. Add chocolate chips and nuts. Chill. Then drop by rounded teaspoonfuls apart on ungreased baking sheet.

Bake until lightly browned at 375°F. Remember, cookies continue to bake on a hot cookie sheet even if removed from oven.

Remove promptly with large thin spatula and place on racks or foil to cool.

Makes about 4 to 5 dozen 2-inch cookies. Baking time is about 10 to 12 minutes, but always watch them closely. Baking too brown will result in very hard cookies. Can double this recipe and add lots more nuts.
