MOM D'S DONUTS 
3 eggs, beaten
1 c. sugar
4 tbsp. shortening, melted
1 c. milk or 1 c. applesauce
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 3/4 tsp. baking powder
5 c. flour or more for stiff dough

Cream together beaten eggs and sugar. Add remaining ingredients. Roll out on lightly floured surface. Handle and flour as little as possible. Makes 4 dozen donuts.

Use 3 pounds Crisco for cooking grease. Heat 15 to 20 minutes, test with donut hole. Donuts are cooked when fork inserted comes out clean. (You can turn off grease toward the end.)
