SOURDOUGH DONUTS OR MAPLE BARS | |
2 c. thick starter 1 c. undiluted condensed milk 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt 3 1/2 to 4 c. flour or enough to make a dough that will roll out 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 eggs Prepare 2 cups of thick starter the night before. Let set in warm spot. Cream sugar and shortening togehter. Add eggs one at a time. Add starter, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Beat with rotary beater for 2 minutes. Blend salt and soda into dry mixture. Sprinkle dry ingredients into batter and mix well. Let rise one hour or until dent remains when fingers are pressed into dough. Punch down and roll out and cut into doughnut shapes or long sticks or bars. Let rise again until light and fry in deep fat until browned. |
