PURLOINED JAM CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter
3 well beaten eggs
3 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. strawberry jam
2/3 c. chopped pecans
2/3 c. chopped dates

Combine sugar and butter. Add well beaten eggs. Sift flour, salt, and spices together. Mix soda with buttermilk. Alternate flour mixture with buttermilk mixture; add to sugar, butter, and egg batter. Fold in jam, nuts, and dates by hand. Bake 50 to 60 minutes in a large well greased tube pan at 350 degrees. This cake can be frozen for later use.
