FRENCH APPLE SLICES | |
PASTRY: 2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. butter 2 egg yolks 7 tbsp. cold water 1 tbsp. lemon juice FILLING: 10 lg. cooking apples 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. cinnamon GLAZE: 3/4 c. confectioners' sugar, sifted 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 tbsp. water 1. Sift the flour and salt together. Mix in the butter with a pastry blender or knife until mixture is the consistency of bread crumbs. Add the egg yolks, water and lemon juice and mix until it forms a soft ball. Roll out one half of the pastry and line the bottom of a 7"x12" baking dish. 2. Peel, core and slice the apples. Toss lightly in a mixture of the sugar, salt, flour and cinnamon. Place the apples on the pastry. 3. Roll out top crust and place over apples. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam out. Seal edges and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 to 50 minutes. Remove from oven and cool. 4. Mix together the confectioners' sugar, vanilla and water. Spread over the top crust. Cut into squares. Serves 6. |
