BANKET ALMOND PASTRY 
1 lb. butter
4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt (optional)
1 scant c. cold water

Mix above ingredients as for pie crust. Roll into strips 4x15. Add paste and roll up. Beat 1 egg with 1 teaspoon water to brush tops. Sprinkle with colored sugar, if desired, or regular sugar may be used. Bake at 400 degrees 15 minutes, then turn oven down to 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

PASTE FILLING:

1 lb. almond paste
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. white sugar

Shave almond paste into bowl. Add eggs and sugar; mix with beater until smooth. Roll dough the length of cookie sheet. Roll paste the size of hot dog and the length of dough. Roll dough around paste. Seal ends by pinching dough. Pick tops with fork; brush with egg. Bake as indicated above.
