PLAYFUL DOUGH COOKIES
2/3 c. butter
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 2/3 c. all-purpose flour
Fool coloring

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a large mixer bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium speed until softened (about 30 seconds). Add sugar and beat until the mixture is fluffy. Then beat in almond extract. With mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, beating until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Divide mixture into several parts, depending on how many different colors you want. Add food coloring to each part, kneading with your hands until the dough is smooth. Form the dough into shapes that are about 3/4 inch thick. Place cookies about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake in the 300 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until edges are firm but bottoms are not brown. With a pancake turner lift cookies onto a cooling rack to cool. Makes about 2 cups of dough.
