1 c shortening
1 c molasses
1 c sugar
2 eggs
1 c water
5 c flour
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt

Cream shortening and sugar, push to one side of the bowl. Beat eggs in the other side, blend mixture. Mix molasses with water. Sift together all dry ingredients, add alternately with liquid, beating only enough to mix. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes at 375°F.
