BANANA CAKE 
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 2/3 c. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs
2/3 c. buttermilk
2/3 c. Crisco
1 1/4 c. mashed bananas
2/3 c. black walnuts

Mix soda and buttermilk together. Cream Crisco and sugar together. Sift dry ingredients together and set aside. Then add eggs to Crisco mixture; beat until fluffy. Add to dry ingredients. Mix well alternating with buttermilk. Beat well. Add bananas and nuts; mix well. Makes 3 (8 inch) layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Frost with Butter Cream Icing and garnish with black walnuts.
