EGGLESS, MILKLESS, BUTTERLESS
CAKE
 
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening (Crisco)
1 cup raisins
1 cup currants
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda

Put all ingredients (except flour and baking soda) in saucepan and bring to boil for 3 or 4 minutes; set aside. When cooled to lukewarm, add flour sifted with baking soda.

Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes.
