1 can whole tomatoes with juice, halve tomatoes
1 med. onion, sliced
1 slice stale bread, pulled into pieces
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
Salt & black pepper

Mix ingredients in buttered casserole. Bake uncovered in 350 degree oven for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. For 3 people. May be made with fresh peeled tomatoes. Bake 3 hours.
