BURNT SUGAR CAKE 
3/4 c. sugar
1 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. sugar
2/3 c. butter
2 eggs, beaten separately
1 c. water
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved)
1 tsp. vanilla

Brown to hear burning 3/4 cup sugar. Pour on this 1 cup boiling water. Remove from stove while pouring on water, then replace on heat. Cook down to medium thick. Mix all other ingredients together add 1/2 cup of the burnt sugar syrup and vanilla to the cake mixture and bake in moderate oven. Bake at 350 degrees, watch carefully and test with toothpick real often. After 25 minutes baking. Ice with Burnt Sugar Icing.

BURNT SUGAR ICING:

1/2 c. burnt sugar syrup
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
1/2 c. butter

Cook first 3 ingredients until it spins a thread in cold water. Take from stove and beat in 1/2 cup butter. Continue beating until thick enough to spread.
