BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tbsp. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. buttermilk

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Cut shortening into flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir mixture until dough leaves sides of bowl. It should be sticky. Turn dough on lightly floured surface. Knead. Roll to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet, 1 inch apart. Bake until golden brown, 10-12 minutes.
