OUR FAMILY GINGERBREAD | |
1 c. shortening or butter 1 c. dark molasses 1 c. sugar 1 c. sour milk (milk with 1 tbsp. lemon juice or vinegar) 1 egg, well beaten 1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 2 tsp. of boiling water 1 pinch of salt 2 1/4 c. flour 2 tsp. ginger Bring shortening, molasses and sugar to a boil and set aside. Mix sour milk, beaten egg, baking soda, water and salt together and add to molasses mixture. Sift flour and ginger together and add to original mixture. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes in a 300 to 325 degree oven. A very dark, molasses gingerbread. Moist and very special. And ahhh the smell of your kitchen! U.S. Senate |
