OLD-FASHIONED SOFT GINGERBREAD 
1/2 c. soft butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. unsulfured molasses
1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. ginger powder
1 3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ground clove
1/2 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy, add egg and beat. Combine molasses, milk and soda. Sift flour, spices and salt. Add both mixtures alternatively to first one, beating continuously. Pour into greased 9 x 9 inch baking-serving dish and bake 30-35 minutes.

To test, press surface with finger; it is done if there is no imprint. Serve with any of the following: whipped cream (with crystalized ginger to taste), marshmallow fluff or sweet butter.
