GERMAN APPLE STRUDEL 
2 2/3 c. sifted flour
1 c. shortening
1 lg. egg
Enough cold milk to make a dough

Mix all together. Divide into 3 balls.

FILLING:

4 c. McIntosh apples, sliced thin (use the long side of grater)
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. toasted bread crumbs
4 tsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. seedless raisins
1 c. granulated sugar (optional)

Take 1 ball of dough, roll thin and spread with softened butter. Put filling within an inch of end. Spread filling and roll up from both sides. Seal ends. Spread with butter and prick top, sides and inside. Repeat with remaining dough.

Place on baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degree oven and bake until nicely brown. Remove from oven, let stand until cold. Cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
