THUMB PRINT COOKIES 
Mix:

1/4 c. soft shortening
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift together and add to the above mixture:

1 c. flour (sifted)
1/4 tsp. salt

Roll in balls, dip in beaten egg white, roll in chopped walnuts. Bake 5 minutes and remove. Press thumb print, return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer. Decorate with chocolate stars, jam, frosting etc. Makes 2 dozen. Preheat oven to 350.
