1 c. shortening, softened 2 c. brown sugar, packed 2 eggs 1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk 3 1/2 c. flour, sifted 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. broken pecan meats 2 c. candied cherries, halved 2 c. cut up dates Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs; mix thoroughly. Stir in sour milk. Sift dry ingredients. Chill one hour and then drop small rounded teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet. Place pecan half on each and bake in moderate hot (400 degree) oven for 8 to 10 minutes. |
