BROWN SUGAR COOKIES
1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/4 tsp. salt
Sufficient flour to make a soft drop cookie dough
1/4 c. boiling water

Mix the soda in the 1/4 cup boiling water.

Combine remaining ingredients and stir in all purpose flour in a sufficient quantity to make a soft, sticky dough that can be dropped from a spoon, but is not liquid. (Spoon should be able to stand up in dough when inserted in center).

Drop dough from a big spoon on a cookie sheet and use a small glass that is greased on the bottom to spread cookie dough. Keep glass greased to keep the dough from sticking. Cook until done. Recipe can be doubled.
