RUBY'S DATE COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. crisco
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:

1- 8 oz. pkg. dates
1/4 c. water
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts, finely chopped

Cream together sugar, butter and crisco. Add eggs, mix well. Add remaining ingredients, and mix until well blended. In a saucepan, combine filling ingredients and cook together until thick. Drop batter with teaspoon, add filling then more batter.

Bake at 400°F.
