SOUR DOUGH STARTER | |
2 c. lukewarm water 1 pkg. active dry yeast or 1 yeast cake 2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt Mix ingredients in a medium crock. Cover loosely with cheese cloth and place in a warm spot. Every day for 4 days, add 1/2 cup lukewarm water and 1/2 cup flour, to feed starter. At end of 4-6 days, it should begin to give off a sour smell. If you do not plan to use starter or part of it immediately, add a little more flour and lukewarm water and store in refrigerator. it should be fed every week by adding additional water and flour. When using starter, take out 1 or 2 cups and be certain to replace with equal amounts of lukewarm water and flour. Be careful not to let fat or egg set into starter. |
