FLUFFY BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. self-rising flour
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
Melt butter
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk

Combine flour, baking powder and sugar; mix well. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead tightly 3 or 4 times. Roll dough to 1/2" thickness; cut with a 2 1/2" biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Brush tops of biscuits with melted butter, and bake at 375 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with additional melted butter. Yield: 9 biscuits.
