ITALIAN CREME CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 stick butter
5 egg yolks
2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. coconut
5 egg whites

In a separate bowl beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside. Cream together sugar, shortening and butter. Add egg yolks one at a time. Beat well between each addition. Add remaining ingredients except egg whites. Mix well. Then fold egg whites in just enough to mix. Grease and flour pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes for 3 layer. 40-45 minutes for sheet cake.

ICING:

1 lg. pkg. cream cheese
1 stick soft butter
1 box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. nuts

Cream together and spread on cool cake.
