RAISED DOUGHNUTS | |
1/4 c. shortening 1 pkg. yeast 1 egg 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 c. flour 3/4 c. milk 1/4 c. warm water 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Add a little more sugar and cinnamon for a sweeter doughnut. Heat shortening and milk. Soften yeast in water. In large mixing bowl combine egg, sugar, salt, nutmeg and milk shortening mixture. Cool to luke warm and add yeast. Gradually add flour to make a soft dough. Knead 1 minute. Place in greased bowl and let rise and double. Roll out on a lightly floured board about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out doughnuts. Place on a cookie sheet and allow to rise. Fry in deep fryer until golden brown. Glaze while hot. GLAZE: 2 c. 10x sugar 1/2 c. orange juice |
